A Leadership Update from Our Board

|

On behalf of the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity Guelph Wellington, I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and wish you and your families the very best for the year ahead.

Earlier this week Steve Howard announced his intentions to step down as CEO of Habitat for Humanity Guelph Wellington effective April 6, 2026. On behalf of the Board of Directors, our volunteer base, staff and Habitat partner families, I would like to sincerely thank Steve for his leadership, energy and the vision that he brought to the Habitat for Humanity Guelph Wellington affiliate.

Steve joined Habitat for Humanity Guelph Wellington in 2013 and over the last 13 years under his leadership, our affiliate has partnered with 42 families and built 39 homes across 8 different properties. Steve’s drive and vision successfully transitioned our affiliate from building one home at a time, to larger multi-home projects such as Cityview in Guelph and Garafraxa in Fergus. With the completion of the Garafraxa project, plans are now in place to build another 30 homes on the Speedvale property in Guelph. Steve will be leaving a legacy of impact and a strong organizational foundation for our continued success.

The Board of Directors will be commencing a search for Steve’s successor immediately, with the goal of ensuring there is an adequate overlap in the role prior to Steve’s departure. As you cross paths with Steve over the next few months, please join me in taking a moment to thank him for his dedication and commitment to building a stronger Habitat for Humanity affiliate.

We all wish him the very best as he looks to the future.

Sincerely,

Jim Long, Chair, Board of Directors
