April is here: What Habitat WDG is doing now

Apr 2, 2020 |

Dear supporters,

We at Habitat for Humanity Wellington Dufferin Guelph have been closely monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and continue to observe recommendations. Our first priority is the continued safety of our employees, volunteers, customers, and donors.

Public health officials continue to advise that social distancing is the most effective strategy to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

At this time, all ReStores across Canada have closed. It is uncertain when they will reopen. This will be determined by government regulation and also guidance from Habitat for Humanity Canada, our national governing body. Update: As of April 23, 2020, the Fergus ReStore is offering products for sale on our Fergus ReStore Facebook page. Other ReStores across Canada are launching various online options as well. Proper social distancing and cleaning protocols are being followed in order to keep our community members safe.

We are continuing our Cityview Village phase three build activities but under very strict protocols. We have low income families who urgently need these homes. However, in the interest of safety, we are not allowing volunteers on the site.

Many organizations across Canada and the world are advocating for rent relief and mortgage payment deferrals. We are part of these conversations and will do our part to support Habitat families in our area. We are supporting our current families with payment deferrals. This is the right thing for us to do. Low income families are facing very difficult choices.

We will watch how things unfold in our community and in the global business response. It is fair to think we are now looking at months before being fully operational again.

As socially responsible leaders, we are following the practices that medical and government representatives are urging us to apply. This is for your health and safety, and for the good of the world.

We all want to be back together.  In this time of separation, you are all greatly missed. Be safe and be well.
