Habitat Happenings Fall 2021 Edition

Sep 14, 2021 |

A big welcome to Lory and Carla!

Lory and her daughter Carla recently moved into their home at Cityview Village:

“What motivated me the most to apply for a Habitat home was the value placed on having a respectful community, a peaceful environment and the chance to have a home I can call my own.” -Lory

“The fact that Habitat for Humanity considered us to be a part of the Habitat Family is so exciting for me. Now my future is something to look forward to, with a new house, new life, new beginning. We will create more happy memories together in a safe and secure place I can call HOME.” – Carla

Thank you to Market Fresh!

Great news! Our friends at Market Fresh, downtown Guelph, raised over $5,000 for Habitat Guelph Wellington over the last two weeks of August! Please help us in thanking the Market Fresh team for their recent fundraising efforts by visiting them in-store. They are looking forward to joining us on the build site in the future when we are able to host them at a build.

In the News

Help us build a better tomorrow for local families

Since 1985, Habitat for Humanity in Canada and thousands of volunteers and supporters like you have helped more than 4,000 Canadian families access safe and affordable housing. We partner with families who are often living with a constant burden of uncertainty, stress and fear. We understand the power of safe and decent housing and how transformative it can be. We do this work because we know that each and every single Habitat home changes lives. Together, we can change lives and transform communities by providing affordable housing solutions. If we are to confront this affordable housing crisis, we need your support. Together, we can build the beyond for more more families in our community. Stay tuned for impending build announcements in our community. We will be making announcements soon!

Election policy recommendations

Are you registered to vote in this election? Investments to increase the supply of affordable housing are necessary to address the housing crisis in Canada, driving positive social and economic outcomes as we emerge from the pandemic. Housing creates lasting change. It transforms futures, strengthens communities, and fosters resiliency and stability that transcend generations. Read Habitat for Humanity Canada’s policy recommendations HERE.

VoteHousing

Habitat for Humanity Canada has also endorsed the #VoteHousing campaign, which is a non-partisan, grassroots initiative that is calling on Canadians to cast their votes with housing and homelessness in mind. This campaign brings together a full range of housing and homelessness advocates in a way that hasn’t been done before and aims to get all parties to commit to action on affordable housing and homelessness. The six policy planks being advanced align with Habitat for Humanity Canada’s calls for increased investments in affordable housing. To learn more about the campaign, you can visit their site at www.votehousing.ca.
