Volunteer

Click here to view our September, 2023 press release to learn about our most pressing volunteer needs and how YOU can help!

You don’t always need a hard hat and a hammer to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity! Whether you’re working in the ReStore or supporting administration, every volunteer role plays a crucial part in the success of our mission.

Volunteer on a build site

Looking to swing a hammer to help build a home? You don’t even need any experience to get started as a Crew Member – we’ll teach you everything you need to know and provide you with all the tools to get the job done safely.

Volunteer in a ReStore

Do you have an eye for merchandising, or a knack for customer service? Are you curious to see what happens in our warehouse where we manage donations of furniture, appliances, home decor and more? Why not volunteer in one of our ReStores! With locations in Guelph and Fergus, there are plenty of opportunities to give back to the community and connect with customers and donors.

In particular, our ReStores are often in need of volunteers who are interested in the following:

Kitchen Salvage

Our volunteer kitchen crew safely and efficiently dismantles, packs, transports, and reassembles used kitchens from local donors’ homes.  We interact with donors and each other in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner.  Must-haves: people skills, patience, reasonable agility for manual labour, respect for safety, good teamwork, and a willingness to learn proper use of tools and team lifts.  All are welcome to apply.

Cleaning Associate

We are looking for people who have attention to detail and love to clean! Our product is constantly changing and needs to be cleaned before it goes to its new home. We are looking for someone to help keep a clean space, clean any product that comes in and is open to helping where needed. No experience is necessary, all are welcome to apply!

ReStore Associate

ReStore Associates are responsible for greeting, assisting, and answering customer questions about products, materials and communicating the Habitat for Humanity Guelph Wellington mission.  They work in partnership with the team to ensure efficient service to customers and enhancing the store’s atmosphere.  Provide support in the handling and processing of inventory.

Warehouse Associate

The ReStore Warehouse Associate accepts donations received at the store, from entry into the store to pricing and stocking inventory onto the sales floor, and for providing an excellent customer service experience to both residential and corporate donors. Opportunities include testing products, sorting products, accepting donations, and moving product from the warehouse into the store.

Build Crew Leader

Habitat for Humanity Wellington Guelph is seeking energetic and experienced volunteers to act as Habitat ambassadors and oversee a team of volunteers on a build site. Crew Leaders act as teachers for our volunteers while monitoring the site to ensure that all tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and correctly. As role models, Crew Leaders help the organization keep the build fun, safe, and on time! This opportunity requires strong renovation/repair experience, communication skills, and knowledge of safe operating practices.

Volunteer on a crew

Do you enjoy being on the road and working with a small but dedicated crew? Do you have skills in carpentry, deconstruction, home renovation, or driving large trucks?

Join our Kitchen Salvage crew or our Donation Pick-Up crew to work directly with donors in our community. And if you have experience driving a truck, and a good driving record, we invite you to also apply to become a driver for these crews.

Opportunities for students

You may be able to complete your 40 Community Involvement Hours through these opportunities. We also partner with local high schools, as well as colleges and universities to offer placements and internships.
